U.S. Mission to Kenya launches “5 Ws of Cybersecurity” Program

Public Affairs of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi has announced an open competition for organizations to submit applications to design and implement a program to strengthen capacity to prevent and respond to cybersecurity threats. This project will leverage a cybersecurity public awareness campaign over SMS and social media, a series of cybersecurity lectures at American Spaces, and engagements with U.S. cybersecurity experts. Subject to availability of funds, the project will be scaled up later through use of traditional media. The project will build the capacity of the participants to understand the 5 Ws of –cybersecurity: What is cybersecurity? When cybersecurity is breached, what are the ramifications? Who is at cybersecurity risk? Why is cybersecurity important? Where can a victim of cybersecurity violations seek help or legal redress?..

Ireland-Africa Fellows Programme

The aims of the Ireland-Africa Fellows Programme are to nurture future African leaders, women and men, to develop in-country capacity to achieve national SDG goals, and to build positive relationships between Ireland and Africa.  Through the programme, early career professional women and men, with leadership potential, from eligible countries will avail of relevant postgraduate study opportunities in Irish higher education institutions. On completion of their studies, graduates will have acquired relevant skills and knowledge and be better capacitated and positioned to influence the advancement of national social, economic and development priorities. Fostering women’s leadership capacity will be a priority. On return, graduates are expected to resume work and put their acquired skills into good use for the benefit of their home countries..

Marine Microbial Ecology / Postdoc Fellowships

The Simons Foundation invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships to support research on fundamental problems in marine microbial ecology. The foundation is particularly interested in applicants with training in different fields who want to apply their experience to understanding the role of microorganisms in shaping ocean processes, and vice versa, as well as applicants with experience in modeling or theory development. While these cross-disciplinary applicants will receive particular attention, applicants already involved in ocean research are also encouraged to apply. The foundation anticipates awarding five fellowships in 2019.
