Improving the evidence base for effective policy making on environmentally-driven migration – A call for papers       Deadline Date – 06-Mar-2020 The Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD) is hosting an international symposium on environmental change and migration from 04-05 June in Washington DC on “Environmentally-Driven Migration: Improving the Evidence Base for Effective Policy Making.” Environmental change is one of the many reasons that prompt people to migrate or flee, but its importance in these flows is rising as climate impacts are getting stronger. Simultaneously, environmental change can also inhibit migration or lead governments to relocate households away from affected areas. Despite the greatly improving evidence-base on these linkages over the past three decades, several knowledge gaps persist that often relate to data challenges. Deadline Date – 22-Apr-2020 The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is currently accepting proposals for the Round 25 of the Grand Challenges Exploration (GCE) on the topic of “Innovations in Materials Science for a Transformative Menstrual Health and Hygiene Product”. Fundamental changes in menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) products are needed to meet the needs of women and girls in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) who face challenges with regard to their overall menstrual health and to managing their menstrual periods with dignity. Women and girls in LMIC face significant challenges barriers related to MHH from menarche to menopause. Current literature, while limited, shows an association between inadequate access to MHH products and poorer physical and mental health outcomes. In Ethiopia, for example, only 28% of women and girls reported having “everything they need” to manage their menstruation. Globally, based on data collected from 8 countries in PMA 2020 (Performance Monitoring for Action, 2020), it is estimated that 528 million women and girls are lacking what they need for basic MHH care...

Funding Information The Lyle Spencer Research Awards Program supports intellectually ambitious research projects that aspire to transform education with budgets between $525,000 and $1 million and project durations of up to five years.Eligibility Criteria  Proposals to the Lyle Spencer Research Awards program must be for academic research projects that aim to study education. Proposals for activities other than research are not eligible (e.g., program evaluations, professional development, curriculum development, scholarships, capital projects).
