Nordic Africa Institute Guest Researcher Scholarship

Deadline: April 1, 2019 The purpose of the programme One of the Nordic Africa Institute’s Strategic goals is to contribute to building capacity in the production of knowledge about Africa. The purpose of the African Guest Researchers’ Scholarship Programme is to provide opportunities for Africa-based researchers with a PhD to work and develop their ongoing research at the Nordic Africa Institute. The scholarship offers access to the Institute’s library and other resources that provide for a stimulating research environment.  Through the programme, the Nordic Africa Institute can promote and establish relations with and between African and Nordic research communities. Who can apply? The scholarship programme is directed at postdoctoral researchers based in Africa and engaged in Africa-oriented research within the disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities. The applicant should be affiliated to an African university/research center and have a proven track record of extensive research experience. The Institute strives to achieve a fair distribution of scholarship positions in regards to gender and geographic focus. Character Virtue Development

Deadline: August 30, 2019 The Character Virtue Development funding area seeks to advance the science and practice of character, with a focus on moral, performance, civic, and intellectual virtues such as humility, gratitude, curiosity, diligence, and honesty. Research we fund promises greater insight into the developmental science of virtues and character, including the identification of relevant precursors, correlates, developmental trajectories, and the assessment of potential inter-individual differences. Human Nutrition Research Grants

Deadline: January 10, and May 10, each year. Sustainable improvement in human nutrition is one of the major issues in the portfolio of the Foundation. During more than 40 years basic and applied research in nutrition has been supported by the Foundation in more than 50 developing countries. In view of the past activities of the Foundation as well as the world’s situation at the turn of the millennium, it was recognized that the public health relevance of the supported research as well as aspects of sustainability, capacity building and educational issues should have a higher priority. Thus, priority is given to projects which lead to sustainable developments with strong elements of capacity building, and the implementation of the results of a research project should be immediate and sustainable. Highly sophisticated nutrition research of mainly academic interest without public health relevance has lower priority for support as well as solely laboratory based studies or animal experimentation. Better and Healthier Foods

Ekhagastiftelsen (Ekhaga Foundation) seeks to promote human health by supporting the development of better food, natural medicines and healing practices, and to support research for a healthier way of life, which in itself may have a disease preventive effect. A central idea is to focus more on preventive active care than reactive care to combat symptoms. The same applies to the agricultural and food areas where the focus should be to find methods that can prevent various problems instead of focusing on their manifestations. The focus should not be on tackling problems, but rather finding ways to prevent their occurrence. For the Foundation an important goal is the improvement in quality of agricultural products through agriculture without toxins and artificial substances. The foundation therefore supports research and development based on the principles of organic and biodynamic food production or other methods and orientations that promote this goal. Research should be in line with IFOAMs (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) principles of organic production. Computational Modeling and Material Science Mini-Grants 2018/2019

KENET has as one of its mandates, the role of catalyzing collaboration in research and education among member institutions. KENET promotes collaboration through facilitation of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in priority academic areas and discovery of active researchers/faculty from member institutions.  KENET is currently supporting the Engineering and Computer Science/Information Systems SIGs which have previously benefited from similar mini grants. We plan to create SIGs in Agriculture and Medicine in 2019. This Call for Proposals for mini-grants is intended to promote early stage research and development in current and emerging research areas, as well as strengthen the the SIG on Computational Modeling and Materials Science (CMMS) that is led by Prof George Amolo of Technical University of Kenya. The mini-grants target early stage research, enabling researchers to undertake proof-of-concept work to support R&D ideas and concepts.
