SUMMARY OF RESUME
Professor Jones Fairfax AGWATA is a career Environmental Scientist and Policy expert with over twenty-five years’ experience as a University Lecturer, Trainer, Researcher and Consultant. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences in the School of Agriculture, Environment and Health Sciences at Machakos University, Kenya and serves as Director (Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer) in the University. Prior to joining Machakos University in January 2019, Prof. Agwata was a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy, University of Nairobi from June 2010 to December 2018. Between April 1993 and June 2010, Prof. Agwata was Tutorial Fellow and Lecturer, respectively,in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Kenyatta University, where he began his professional career. His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nairobi and Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Environment from MOI and Kenyatta Universities, respectively. His broad academic and professional interests include environmental science and policy, disaster management, environmental assessment, water resources management, natural resources use conflicts, climate change and waste management. Prof. Agwata serves as a consultant with the World Bank, and also as consultant facilitator and trainer in Environmental Management with the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI) and other various institutions and organizations. Internationally, Prof. Agwata is an external examiner in the Faculty of Science at the University of Malawi’s Chancellor College. He is also an external examiner for South Eastern Kenya University, Maasai Mara University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and Maseno University. He has previously served in the same capacity at Chuka University, Technical University of Kenya, Egerton University and University of Eldoret. Prof. Agwata holds a Research Fellowship at the American Biographical Institute, USA and a Fellowship atthe African Scientific Institute. He is a Life Member of the Kenya Meteorological Society besides being a member of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences, International Society for Development and Sustainability, Japan; International Association of Hydrological Sciences, UK; Kenya DAAD Scholars Association; Environment Institute of Kenya and the Kenya Bureau of Standard’s Disaster Management, Environmental Management and Higher Education Services Technical Committees. Prof. Agwata is a member and Chairman of Board of Management of State House Girls High School, Nairobi. He has attended several courses and presented several papers at conferences and workshops nationally and internationally. Besides several book chapters and Journal papers to his credit, Prof. Agwata is a Lead Expert with the National Environment Management Authority, Kenya and is an SGS and KEBS trained Quality Management Systems Auditor. Prof. Agwata is widely travelled to various countries such as the United Arab Emirates, China, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Germany and Switzerland for various professional assignments.
